COVID-19 FAQ

Following the memorandum from interim UNC system president Bill Roper on March 11, UNC system institutions are expected to prepare to transition away from in-person instruction wherever possible beginning March 23rd. At WCU we realize that our collaborative multimedia tools will be a key component to our strategy to ensure the highest fidelity instruction possible, despite pressures from COVID-19.

For faculty transitioning to fully online course delivery, we recommend a strategy that focuses on ensuring that core content is made available as best as possible in a basic format through the tools within Blackboard. For users new to video-based tools at WCU, we recommend utilizing multimedia solutions only after a set of baseline materials is established for each section being taught.

Zoom Video

Due to the increased demand for Zoom video WCU has expanded it’s Zoom licensing to include all Faculty and Staff. To claim your license and begin using Zoom, please head to https://zoom.wcu.edu.

Panopto

Panopto allows faculty to record and share video easily with students within Blackboard courses. Panopto can be accessed at https://panopto.wcu.edu as well as directly within Blackboard. For guidance on getting started with Panopto please reference our getting started video library.

Blackboard Collaborate

Blackboard Collaborate is a robust online meeting platform built directly into Blackboard. This provides additional convenience and tight integration with other LMS features for faculty already comfortable with Blackboard. Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a newly supported addition to WCU and is included as part of our O365 subscription with Microsoft. Teams offers excellent internal collaboration via chat as well as voice and video calling. Teams also features enhanced integration with other O365 features such as Email, Calendaring and File Sharing through OneDrive.

All WCU members with an O365 account have access to Microsoft Teams. To get started and learn more about the features please start on the Microsoft Teams Getting Started Page and login with your WCU email address when prompted.
